Jute/Hessian - made from a mixture of recycled jute
and cashmere hair, needled onto a hessian backing. As the material degrades
nitrogen and other beneficial elements are released to benefit the growing
plants. Should be pegged, as burying will stimulate rotting.
Hybrid Jute - made from a mixture of recycled jute and cashmere hair,
needled onto a polythene backing. As with the jute product, it should be pegged,
rather than buried, to prevent accelerated degradation.
Bituminous Felt has been used successfully for over 25 years. Normally
anchored by burying in the corners, saving the cost of pegs. On wet sites with a
high pH, rotting can be more rapid.
